SUMMARY:Frame the Tune: A Synaesthetic Exhibition of Art and Music in The Loovre
DESCRIPTION:Frame the Tune: A Synaesthetic Exhibition of Art and Music\nJoin us for a night of art\, music and a fusion of everything in between as we celebrate our latest exhibition to grace the walls of Bristol’s smallest and most exclusive gallery\, The Loovre! \nOur grand opening night will regale your senses with a live music jam by The Loovre’s favourite local musicians\, life drawing\, a collaborative art space and of course the unveiling of art exhibited by local makers and creators. Prepare yourself to embrace the intrepid. \nBring mates\, art supplies and instruments. Relish in this opportunity to socialise\, collaborate\, work on an old project or create something new. \nWhere? PRSC space\, 17-25 Jamaica Street\, Bristol \nWhen? Sunday 1st October\, 7pm \nWho? This event is open to all\, regardless of artistic ability \nThis is a FREE event\, but as always donations are welcome. With love\, The Loovre team xx

SUMMARY:African Apocalypse: Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:Want to hear from people on the ground about the current situation in Niger? \nJoin us for a screening of the film ‘African Apocalypse’ which follows the university student Femi Nylander on a journey through Niger\, meeting communities who are still living with the legacies of colonialism\, as well as the young people determined to work towards repair. \nWe will follow the film with a call to action about reparations\, which will be the starting point of building solidarity with the indigenous communities in Niger and the generation of young people who are taking back their future. \nBehind the recent media headlines about Niger is an environmental justice struggle. Uranium from the former French colony is still powering one out of every three lightbulbs in France\, while in Niger itself less than 20% of people have access to electricity; the stopping of French plunder of natural resources needs to be enacted globally. \nDonations accepted to cover costs. \n\nThe Struggle Continues // Fri 18 - Mon 28 August // Open 12:00 - 18:00 daily\nThis collaborative exhibition celebrates the success of 1963's Bristol Bus Boycott\, alongside other tales of political struggle in Bristol and beyond. SUMMARY:Dragon Boat Fest
DESCRIPTION:TicketsDragon Boat Festival is a traditional festival celebrated across many Asian cultures. Come join us to make iconic rice dumplings\, try out traditional Chinese calligraphy and learn more about the history of Dragon Boat Festival! \n13:00 Wrapping of rice dumplings begins\n14:00 Rice dumplings being boiled\, other activities take place: traditional Chinese calligraphy\, qigong\, panel discussion with open floor questions and more.\n16:00 Rice dumplings boiled and ready to serve \nMade on the Moon\, a collective celebrating East & South East Asian (ESEA) creativity and cultures are back with another event! Our team also organises the annual arts festival MOON FEST\, which sold out Arnolfini last September and welcomed more than 200 people. \nFrom here on\, we are organising more regular opportunities for us to come together. So follow us on Instagram and Facebook to make sure you don’t miss any updates! \n1. What is the Dragon Boat Festival?\nThe Dragon Boat Festival is a traditional Chinese festival\, though similar festivals also exist in other ESEA cultures\, for example\, Japanese (Tango no sekku)\, Vietnamese (Tết Đoan Ngọ)\, Korean (Dano). We welcome learnings and discussion from you too about these traditional festivals if you do celebrate! The Dragon Boat Festival is particularly a commemoration of the ancient poet Qu Yuan. It is celebrated by holding dragon boat races and eating sticky rice dumplings. \n2. Why the Dragon Boat Fest?\nWe cherish our traditional festivals and have unfortunately come across many instances where they are appropriated\, including the Dragon Boat Race by the Rotary Club of Bristol Breakfast. At this event\, we hope to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival with our community the right\, fun\, inclusive way! \nWe invited 5 Foot Way\, a family run catering company based in Wiltshire to guide us how to put together traditional rice dumplings. They cook for weddings and other private events\, supperclubs and corporate parties. They specialise in Malaysian food and due to the influence of the different ethnic and cultural identities there\, they also cook other South East Asian\, Chinese and Indian dishes. Michelle was born in Malaysia of Chinese heritage and has lived in the UK for the last 40 years. Her husband\, Steve\, is English\, loves Asian food and is king of the satay grill and crispy belly pork. \n3. Who will be there?\nWe welcome friends of East & South East Asian heritages to join\, but all allies are welcome. Please note that while everyone is welcomed\, it is advised that children aged 10 or below do not participate directly in the wrapping of rice dumplings (Free Entry for children aged 10 or below). For children aged 14 or below\, it is advised that they participate in the wrapping of rice dumplings under adult supervision. \n4. What are the tickets?\nThere are two types of tickets\, Early Dragon Dumpling Makers (i.e. Early Bird Tickets) and Final Dumpling Makers (i.e. Main Tickets). All revenue is split between 5 Foot Way and Made on the Moon in covering necessary costs. Each Extra Rice Dumpling is £5 and only a very limited amount is available. \n5. What is a rice dumpling?\nZong\, zhongzi\, bak chang…this iconic traditional food has many names and variations! 5 Foot Way particularly specialises in the savoury kind – bamboo leaf wrapped glutinous rice parcels with meat or vegetarian fillings of your choice. The ingredients used are gluten free but there may be traces of gluten and there are other ingredients with allergens present as listed below:\nCrustaceans (such as prawns\, crabs and lobsters)\, eggs\, )\, peanuts\, soybeans\, and tree nuts (such as almonds\, hazelnuts\, walnuts\, brazil nuts\, cashews\, pecans\, pistachios and macadamia nuts). \n6. Any other reminders?\nWrapping rice dumplings could get messy and participants may also opt to join in a short session of qigong\, so we recommend wearing loose and comfortable clothes which you don’t mind being made dirty. Handwashing facilities are available on site. Please also bring your own cutlery and containers for the environment\, although a number of disposable utensils will be provided. \nOur caterer has the necessary certificates and qualifications to make and sell food. However\, since the event involves the making of food by participants\, please participate only if you have considered and accept to undertake potential risks of safety and hygiene. Made on the Moon organisers would only be liable for any injury occurring as a direct result of our negligence. \nDue to necessary preparation of ingredients in advance\, please note that we are not able to issue any refund for this particular event. \nWe will be taking photographs and videos at the event. They would be shared to our social media pages. If you would rather not appear in any\, please let us know before the event. Thank you! \n7. More questions?\nFeel free to email us at email hidden; JavaScript is required!

SUMMARY:UpFront Survivors Pop-Up Cultural Space
DESCRIPTION:Free Creative Workshop & Events Programme For Adult Survivors Of Child Sexual Abuse\, Friends and Allies\nUpFront Survivors is a pioneering\, three-year programme of creative changemaking\, designed and led by survivors of child sexual abuse (CSA) and allies in partnership with frontline services. \nAn estimated 11 million adults – or one in six people – have experienced child sexual abuse (CSA) in the UK. CSA survivors lack representation on national and local platforms\, as experiences of CSA continue to be hidden and taboo. Survivors live with ongoing silencing and censorship\, and many are not able to safely self-identify or speak out about their experiences. Most have never met another survivor\, so do not feel part of a community. Survivors of CSA do not have existing role models or cultural infrastructure\, and our voices are omitted from diversity and inclusion discourses. \nUsing arts-based activities\, the aim of UpFront Survivors is to work against stigma\, silencing and censorship towards social justice\, access and inclusion for the CSA survivor community. \nWe are celebrating the launch of this ground-breaking project with one of the first ever pop-up cultural spaces for the CSA survivor community\, friends and allies\, featuring a free programme of daily creative workshops and cultural events. \nUnless otherwise stated\, all workshops and events take place at PRSC. \nAll our spaces are relaxed environments\, meaning you can move around the space as you need to during events and performances\, and leave (and come back) at any time. \nAll events are free to attend but pre-booking is required for workshops due to limited capacity.
