SUMMARY:Public Meeting: Turbo Island for the People

SUMMARY:Vital Signs - Hospital Workers' Magazine Launch Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Vital Signs is a new working class political project based in the BRI and Southmead Hospital. Some of the workers involved will present the first issue of the magazine and open a discussion on how we see the initiative as part of the wider struggle for revolutionary social transition. \nWe invite you to the launch event of Vital Signs\, a magazine for the two main hospitals in Bristol\, addressing 18\,000 fellow workers. With the magazine we want to support the independent organisation of our daily struggle for better conditions and support the development of day-to-day workers’ and working class patients’ control. The magazine forms part of a long-term political project. \nAt the launch event we will present our political thoughts\, strategy and hope behind Vital Signs and open them up for discussion. We will talk about the current situation at the two main hospitals and the challenges and potentials we see for a collective intervention. \nAlthough we will focus on the situation in the hospitals\, our main question is a common one: how can workers in the essential industries lead independent struggles and develop a strategy to take over the means of production under the conditions of 21st century capitalism? \nPlease spread the word!

SUMMARY:Global Citizenship Education Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Register for your free ticket\nWe are very excited to welcome a delegation of reparations activist from Global Citizenship Education for Planet Repairs Action (GCEPRA) based in Ghana on a visit to Bristol. We will be discussing practical links of solidarity between community projects across the UK and in indigenous communities of resistance in West Afrika. \nTogether we will ground in the progressive histories of this city in order to build the internationalist relationships we need as both the UK and Ghana are having election years in 2024. We will be facing different challenges but we are all living under outdated political systems which have opposed struggles for freedom both locally and globally and which are unable to respond to the current social and environmental problems. \nWith the upswell of positive action for self-determination and Planet Repairs\, led by grassroots communities across the world\, this system of domination and violence is on the back foot\, and so we need to get organised and work on tackling the needs of our communities glocally. \nDoors open at 6.30pm for a 7pm start. Food will be available for a donation \nAbout us: \nThe Planet Repairs Action Learning Educational Revolution (PRALER) is building relationships between communities globally which are challenging systems of miseducation and developing true education oriented towards tackling the needs of all our communities in a world which is going through multiple crises.

SUMMARY:Community Dinner & Open Meeting for Planet Repairs
DESCRIPTION:Register for your free ticket\nWe have a window of opportunity that only comes every other generation – will we take it or waste it? Across the PRALER network we will take it! Join us and walk as one with communities building a new world of Global Justice. \nWe are launching a series of community dinners and open meetings with the aim to provide an action-learning space for people in Bristol who want to engage in practical ways with communities around the world who are taking back control of their lands and their education. \nThere are many traditions of peoples to peoples solidarity which we have a duty to build on\, such as the hundreds of thousands of people across the UK who 200 years ago boycotted sugar produced through slavery\, or the example of Sylvia Pankhurst who dedicated much of her life in solidarity with the struggle for Afrikan liberation as well as for women’s right to vote. \nWe need to rebuild internationalist networks and institutions so that we can walk as one with our global family and ensure the sharing of knowledge about how we best can enact repair. Together we will explore questions such as: \n\nWhat are the problems and educational needs here in Bristol?\nWhat reparatory actions can we take that are meaningful for communities globally?\nWhat kind of community institutions do we need to build to tackle our problems?\n\nWe hope you will join us\, food and educational material provided. Donations accepted to cover costs and we would appreciate if people register in advance so that we have an idea of numbers. \nAgenda:\n6.30pm – Food and welcome\n7.00pm – What is PRALER and what is happening across the network?\n7.30pm – Discussion in breakout groups about calls to action\n8.15pm – Feedback from breakout groups\n8.45pm – Closing and next steps \nAbout the organiser: \nThe Planet Repairs Action Learning Educational Revolution (PRALER) is a process led by communities of resistance in the Global South with the aim to challenge the education system and to build globally connected educational processes for us all to learn what we need to advance environmental\, reparatory and cognitive justice\, otherwise known as Planet Repairs. \nHere in Bristol a Community Of Life-long Learning Study Action Group (COLLSAG) is being organised as an educational space which is accountable and directly linked to the communities of resistance in the Global South which are leading the PRALER process\, and we are organising these open meetings to invite people to join us.\n\nPeople's Art Fair: Winter // Friday 1 - Sunday 10 December 2023\nThe People's Art Fair runs from December 1-10\, and encompasses a group exhibition\, performances and creative workshops & activities! \nHere in Bristol a Community Of Life-long Learning Study Action Group (COLLSAG) is being organised as an educational space which is accountable and directly linked to the communities of resistance in the Global South which are leading the PRALER process\, and we are organising these open meetings to invite people to join us.

SUMMARY:Opposing the drive to war (No2Nato – No2War)
DESCRIPTION:TicketsThe UK is the second biggest contributor to NATO. This year we paid £60 BILLION towards it. We believe Britain would be safer and wealthier outside of NATO\, and we believe that Britain agrees with us. \nThe danger of a new war of aggression waged by imperialism has never been greater. If the ruling class is unchallenged\, it could lead to utter catastrophe. \nOur Bristol speakers: \n\nSocialist\, peace campaigner and ex-Labour MP Chris Williamson\nJournalist and campaigner Konrad Rekas\nJournalist and peace activist James Tweedie\nArrested journalist who angered the establishment over the story of how Canadians platformed a Nazi in their parliament Warren Thornton\nJournalist Tony Gosling\n\nTickets available via Eventbrite.

SUMMARY:Building foundations for resilient grassroot networks
DESCRIPTION:Tickets\nHow do we build strong foundations for a resilient grassroots network?\nJoin us for a relaxed and welcoming evening to explore and unpack the question above at this Planet Local Summit fringe event. \nInspired by the Planet Local Summit\, panellists from some of Bristol’s most active grassroots projects and organisations (Shift Bristol\, The Bristol Commons\, Transition) will gather to share our insights and experience in what fosters and supports authentic\, lasting and united action. \nWe will open the conversation to include a wide range of angles; from the group dynamic skills needed to help support relationships within networks\, to the design of communication channels to facilitate collaborative working. \nAfter the panel discussion we will host a peer-led ‘Open Space’\, where attendees can form groups to explore and participate in emergent conversations rising from the evening. Having space to talk in-person\, is one of the most valuable ways to build resilient grassroots networks following the aftermath of isolation\, caused by the global pandemic. \nShift Bristol will assimilate the discussions from the evening to share with participants afterwards. This cycle of coming together\, exploring\, generating ideas\, gathering the fruits\, and then sharing before taking action\, is another important step in building resilience. \nTHE PANEL\nHannah Padgett\nHas over ten years experience involving communities in the design of the objects\, environments and messages that fill their everyday lives. She has worked in areas such as street design\, active travel\, social health and public art\, supporting key stakeholders and public champions\, local authorities and institutions\, businesses and individuals to come together to co-create outcomes that are informed by the people that use them. Hannah was a Practical Sustainability Course student in 2018/19 and currently makes use of her shifty skills at the Ecological Land Cooperative as Community Development Manager\, as Founding Director of Hay Regenerative Soils CIC and as an artisan cheese maker. \nDanny Balla\nDanny is a creative facilitator dedicated to creating systemic change. He explores human relationships with the world and each other through immersive projects of participatory theatre\, storytelling and film. Daniel is passionate about facilitation and experiential tools for participatory democracy. He has worked with Coexist since 2011\, and is dedicated to exploring strategies for systemic change including Coexist’s manifesto to ‘Rebuild The Commons’. \nLaura Corfield\nSince 2004 Laura has volunteered with a host of community engagement and sustainability groups; including co-founding Transition Keynsham\, Frack Free Somerset and participating in Climate Action camps and demonstrations. In 2010 she co-founded Shift Bristol with Sarah Pugh and went on to project manage the Practical Sustainability Course. She is now the Creative Director of Shift Bristol and is passionate about Group Skills education\, as a key factor in the success of networks collaborating successfully in the future. \nMike Thomas – Transition\nHas worked in the Third Sector for over 25 years in a wide variety of roles. He is now working at Transition Network where he thinks systemically about how to support the Transition Movement by developing and delivering a variety of projects large and small. He currently oversees the Transition Together project covering the UK. \nTea & coffee refreshments will be supplied on the evening

SUMMARY:No Bigots\, No Binaries – how can we win LGBT+ liberation?
DESCRIPTION:A new generation of LGBT+ people are out—to take on the system. \nThe Tories are ramping up their war on trans and non-binary people. Rishi Sunak blocking Scotland’s GRA reforms is a threat to trans rights across Britain—and part of a right wing backlash against LGBT+ people. \nIt’s not just in Britain. Whether it’s in Italy or Hungary\, far right governments are attacking LGBT+ people under the guise of “gender ideology”. \nUganda’s government recently passed a vicious homophobic law\, building on the legacy of the British Empire. \nLGBT+ oppression is ingrained throughout society\, but it hasn’t always existed. It’s rooted in the development of capitalism and the nuclear family\, and bigoted ideas are pushed from the top of society. \nIn Britain\, we’ve also seen resistance. The Tories blocking Scottish GRA reforms was met by a wave of resistance\, with young and militant protests from London to the Scottish islands. And the vigils for Brianna Ghey brought thousands more onto the streets. \nThe movement has thrown up huge questions—whether it’s about the roots of oppression\, identity politics\, or strategies to win liberation. \nJoin us to discuss where LGBT+ oppression comes from and how we can win liberation.
