The funeral of Alan Smith, known to his friends as “Bear”, will take place at 9.30 am at Canford Crematorium  in Westbury on  Trym on 6th January. Bear was known for his busking poetry and his gentle manner, and spent much of the last few years on Stokes Croft, living in Jamaica Street Hostel the past three years. Alan struggled with his addictions, and finally succumbed on 19th November. It is understood that Alan died in the Burger King in Broadmead, with a needle in his arm. His good humour and creativity will be missed on the Croft.

It is understood that there will be a memorial gig at the Croft on 8th January.

There will be transport in the form of the Mighty Banana van to go to the funeral, leaving at 9.00 am from outside Jamaica Street hostel, returning afterwards to Stokes Croft.
